Training meeting Monday April 22, 2019

Tom Jacobs called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.

Andrew Lane discussed Border Days fireworks fund, and upcoming deadlines

Brian Perry and Andrew Lane are the contacts for donations.

Free Press is doing the postcards, and is also going to start doing our tickets, and fire reports

Brian Perry led the group in a high-level overview of short-handed fire tactics. All firemen drove trucks to the city shed. Brian talked about different options for running fire ground tactics with less people. First thing discussed was the 360°, sizing up the structure, with saving life as first priority. Hose lays and flacking were discussed-making sure we have at least 50 feet at the door, ready to stretch into the structure.

Ground guys should be staging tools in a convenient central area where they will be needed. Ladders; saws, poles, axes, etc, should all be staged ready to go. Brian demonstrated carrying 2 ladders, a saw, and a pike pole in one trip from the truck to the building by himself. He also demonstrated extending a 24 ft. ladder by himself. Both to show that it doesn’t take a lot of people to get the job done.

We talked about the necessity of communication on the fire ground:
