April 23, 2018 Fire Training Minutes

Training meeting Monday, April 23, 2018
Meeting called to order at 19:10

  • John S introduced an urban and wildland video. Video included what to do if structures are threatened on wildland. As structure firemen our tendency is to jump right in to put the fire out. However, it is better to stand back and assess the situation and develop a strategy. Priorities in order are to protect firemen, save citizens, then structures and property.  Assess resources so the job you start can be finished.
  • Fire strategy and making decisions on what you can win are a priority on wildland fires.
  • Work on lowering fuel load around structures and homes
  • Might be tough because you might know people whose house or property we are trying to defend.
  • Fight grass fire from the black, do not have unburnt fuel between you and the fire
  • If livestock are on the property that is burning make best case decision before cutting fences.
  • Grass fire/wildland fire always remember (LCES) L-lookout, C-Communication, E-escape, S-safety zone
  • Mutual aid radio-tactical-not monitored by dispatch. IDLD1R2
  • Anchor, Flank, Pinch. DO NOT go to the head of the fire!!
  • Lightning strike fire at Sleepy Hollow was discussed. Discussion centered on mutual aid and where to stage.
  • Firemen ask who would be in charge. (IC) Unified command is preferable.
  • Sherriff Dept. is responsible for evacuation we will assist if necessary.
  • Meeting adjourned at 21:00
