Press Release – Bomb Threat Update

Update

Thursday May 9, 2013 1:30 P.M.  Grangeville police were called to Grangeville High School early this morning after a school employee found written material indicating that a bomb was on the school grounds.

According to Police Chief Morgan Drew, an employee reporting to work at the school found a note attached to an entrance door of the high school located at 910 South D Street.  The contents of the note implied a threat to “blow” up the school.  It was found prior to the start of the school day and no children were on campus.

“We consider bomb threats to be very serious.  The safety of our children and our community are our top priority. Thankfully, no explosive devices were located during the search of the Grangeville High School.  The Grangeville Police Department would like to thank the Nampa Police Department and the United States Marshal’s Office Spokane Field Office for providing bomb sniffing dogs and handlers to search the school for explosives.  We would also like to thank the community for their support and understanding during this incident. ” said Chief Morgan Drew.

The school was closed for the day and the Nampa Police Department and United States Marshal’s Office utilized bomb trained dogs to perform a sweep of the school grounds.  After a search of both the interior and exterior, police did not find any kind of dangerous device on the premises.

A $500.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for this incident is being offered by Mountain View School District.  Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Grangeville Police Department at (208) 983-1351, Superintendant Greg Bailey at (208) 983-0990 or Principal Steve Higgins at (208) 983-0580.

The school remains closed for the rest of the evening, but will re-open as usual on Friday morning.

Drew adds that for precautionary reasons there will be extra police patrols of the school tomorrow.

The incident remains under investigation by authorities.

Further updates will follow if necessary.
