JOB DESCRIPTION – LIBRARY AIDE
GRANGEVILLE CENTENNIAL LIBRARY
Under the administrative direction of the Director and Assistant Librarian the Library Aide is responsible for doing related work as required.
The Library Aide is responsible for performing all duties as directed by the Director and Assistant Librarian, including but not limited to: assisting library patrons in the use of the library facilities; publicizing the library at every opportunity; performing routine reference work; instructing and assisting patrons in the use of computers; and managing computer access.
The Library Aide also checks out and checks in books and other library materials; organizes and packages materials for the courier, fine and fee notices, computes and collects fines; receives money for lost or damaged books, non-resident library cards, used book sales, and copier use; registers new borrowers and renews borrower’s cards; searches and fills requests; answers the telephone; performs alphabetical and numerical filing; marks call numbers on books; attaches plastic jackets; segregates books needing repairs; shelving, when necessary; cares for building; assists with adult, children and any other programs; and attends library meetings and workshops as directed. There will be other library-related duties, responsibilities and programs that the Library Aide will take part in, as directed, including cleaning and care of the library building.
The employee must be a high school graduate or the equivalent. Library experience is desirable, but not required. Must have strong customer service skills. Available Saturdays.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, OR ABILITIES
The Library Aide should have the ability to work effectively with the public; capability to write and speak effectively; computer knowledge is a must.
