March 4, 2013 Regular Meeting

The City Council met in regular session on March 4, 2013 at 7:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers of City Hall.

Mayor Walker presided:

Del Houger
Mike Peterson
Shelley Dumas
Wes Lester
Brian Lorentz
Beryl Grant

City employees present were Officer Walters, Attorney Green, Public Works Director McFrederick and Clerk Kennedy. Chief Drew absent.

MINUTES: The meeting was called to order and the minutes of the February 19th meeting were approved as presented by Councilman Peterson, second by Councilman Lester. Motion carried by a unanimous vote of the Council present.

COMMITTEE REPORTS: The department had 37 cases written, 19 citations, 2 written warnings and 86 calls for service for February 2013. The Police and Animal Control Reports for February 2013 were accepted on motion by Councilman Lester second by Councilman Peterson. Motion carried by a unanimous vote of the Council present.

PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX: According to AIC, the Governor’s proposal is not going anywhere and it was never in the form of a bill. At this time, a new bill has not been proposed. Councilman Lester stated he didn’t know if he feels it’s a fair tax. Councilman Lorentz is opposed to personal property tax however it would be irresponsible for the legislature to implement something without a solution when it affects so many cities and counties. No action taken.

ARBOR DAY PROCLAMATION: Mayor Walker read the Arbor Day Proclamation. On motion by Councilman Lester, second by Councilman Houger to allow the city to apply for an Arbor Day Grant. Motion carried by a unanimous vote of the Council present.
