October 11, 2021 Fire Training Minutes

Training meeting Monday October 11, 2021

Meeting called to order at 1800

  • Brian said training tonight will be training with our piercing nozzle on a car fire.
  • Brian broke up the department into two groups for each truck. Truck #1 will be the primary foam attack on the car. #4 will be secondary. Brian reminded firemen to remember safety procedure concerning car fires. (distance, stay away from the front bumper, full PPE) Firemen were dismissed to Jerry Cox shop for training.
  • When firemen arrived they found a 1998 Ford Taurus fully engulfed in flame.
  • When truck #1 ran low on water rural engine #2 took over to extinguish fire with foam.
  • Firemen returned to station at 1915 to debrief on training and refill trucks with water.
  • Brute force method might seem like the best method, but not when it costs valuable equipment. Easy is generally the best method.  Become familiar with the tools in the trucks. Don’t hurt yourself or risk breaking tools when we have tools to make the job easier.
  • Safety is always first when it comes to a car fire full PPE, foam and secondary hose for protection of firemen and surrounding area.  Remember we are the only ones in danger with a car fire and the car is probably totaled anyway so don’t risk putting yourself in danger.
  • Meeting adjourned at 1950
  • Minutes taken by Kerry McCulley

Approved by Fire Chief Bob Mager
