Snowhaven Project Committee Minutes
February 15, 2024 – 4:30 P.M.
Council Chambers

Members Present: Wes Lester, Tonya Kennedy, Gabe Forsmann and Scott Wasem. Tara Connolley absent.

T-BAR MAINTENANCE

Scott prepared a quote for the new cable. The original cost estimate was $16,000; however the cost for the cable alone is $37,152. Other costs associated to it are freight, travel to splice, and a rigging team for an estimated total of $63,598.25. The committee originally chose to buy a new cable because the cable estimate was $16,000 and to x-ray the cable was $10,000.

The committee talked about expenses to date before making a decision.

Total ARPA Funds: $626,640.03

Expenses to date: $192,410.85
Frequency drive: $16,000
New Cable: $63,598.25
Subtotal: $272,009
Spring Boxes: $182,000
Total Estimated Expenses: $454,009

This would leave $172,631 for the shop. Scott and Gabe felt the spring boxes should be saved until the end as we can get by without new ones.

Expenses w/out spring boxes: $272,009
Amount left for shop w/out spring boxes: $354,631

50 T’s replacement was $3,000 each for a budget estimate = $150,000

MAINTENANCE SHOP

Wes explained he and Bob Mager went up to the hill to look at options. Bob suggested putting the new shop where the ski patrol building is currently located and make it 2-story. The basement would be the shop and the main level would be rental shop and ticket booth. Then ski patrol could move into the basement of the existing lodge. The kitchen would remain as is.

Wes attended a training with the health department and was able to visit with Mike Kerley. You can’t have vaults when water is available so that’s not an option. Mike thinks the septic is maybe metal and it could be leaking; he’s worried it’s affecting the hits on the well. Scott thinks casing on well is going bad. The Edwards property down the road doesn’t perk.

Scott is concerned about the groomer entrance being in the middle of parking lot. They may have to park the groomer during day where we currently do by the lodge.
Wes is thinking about a 40×40 shop. Scott and Gabe want to keep both groomers. Wes didn’t think the council would approve keeping 2 groomers; Snowhaven can’t afford to maintain two. Gabe felt we could maintain the old groomer for around $500/year and that way we’d have a backup if the groomer went down.. Tonya also didn’t feel the hill could afford to keep both groomers.

After discussion, Scott and Gabe both felt the spring boxes should be left as a last item, and instead we should replace the cable and inspect the septic and figure out what we need to do there.

The committee agreed to do the new cable.

Meeting adjourned 5:13 p.m.
