Snowhaven Project Committee Minutes
August 30, 2023 – 5:00 P.M.
Council Chambers
Members Present: Wes Lester, Tonya Kennedy, Gabe Forsmann, Scott Wasem and Tara Connolley
Retaining Wall Update
The National Guard completed the retaining wall.
T-Bar Maintenance
Frequency Drive: We assumed there was 3 phase power at Snowhaven. We have 2 phase power and companies that make a frequency system won’t warranty it with 2 phase power and even with 3 phase they may not warranty in on a ski lift because there is the chance of human error. The tubing and rope tow currently have frequency drive and it works fine. Idaho County Light and Power said it’s quite a ways out distance wise and they don’t have a quote but it would be expensive. Gabe stated 3 phase isn’t feasible at this time but the committee felt we should move forward with the frequency drive.
New Ts
Gabe and Scott are researching T options. The old system was pneumatic.
One option is a double spring system. There are none out on the hills yet but he’ll give us one to test out to see what we think. If we like it, then we can order 10 to test out through next season. If they work through the season, then we would order 65 which would give us 25 extra. We have 55 T’s and if we order 20 extra at $550 each would be a total of $41,000.
At one time we were considering a spring box T (cottonwood butte has them) at about $2,700 each.
S&S Welding quoted us $15,000 for equipment and labor to take the cable off and put in all bushings and sheaves except the 12 that are backordered.
The shift carriers are $70 each and 20 are being made at Intermountain Machine.
Knight Equipment Inspection was completed. There were a couple displaced strands, but the cable meets industry standards and doesn’t need replaced. There is one spot to keep an eye on. If it gets worse, it could be spliced with a new section.
Tonya will amend the budget to include spending some ARPA money.
Groomer
Gabe had a couple different quotes on groomers from Peterson Equipment and Prinoth. There is a 2018 Prinoth Bison S for $165,000 and a Bison X for $160,000. Prinoth includes shipping and assembly. They offer warranties: standard is one season or a set amount of hours. 150 hours or one ski season is a typical warranty. Peterson offers no warranty and doesn’t include shipping and assembly. Snowhaven normally does 100-200 hours per year. Tonya will check with Matt on bid requirements.
Maintenance Shop/Groomer Shop
Wes went up and marked all the corners of the property pins with posts. Eric Jones with the city used GPS to put in additional stakes. This was done before the guard worked on the retaining wall.
We need to revisit this to determine the size of a building. It was suggested looking into a red iron building or other option and possibly increase the size.
Ski Patrol Building
The existing building was measured and ski patrol wants 1’-2’ wider than the current building. Wes is checking with Clearwater Barns to see what they can do. The current building side is 28’ 6” x 12’4” and the deck is 10’3”.
Tonya will look into the Land and Water Conservation Grant to make sure we have approval to construct a new shop or ski patrol building.
Meeting adjourned 6:23 pm.
