July 20, 2023 Board Meeting

Grangeville Centennial Library Board Meeting Agenda
Council Chambers – 225 W North St.
July 20, 2023 – 5:00 p.m.

Meeting was called to order by Brennan Wright at 5:02 PM. Those present: Betty Nafziger, Bridget Arnzen Nancy Moser, Stacy Stone, Dylan Canaday Heidi Brown and Gina Sobrero

Visitors:

1. Natalie Nelson-Discuss patronage of the library. She is requesting the board to read and respond to a letter.

2. Fred Stevens-Discuss Role of Library Board, Governing body and library policies. Discussed ALA President, Drag Queens story times, and what libraries are doing in other cities that don’t apply to us.

Minutes: Betty approved and Nancy seconded to approve the June 8 and June 27 minutes. Motion passed.

Budget Report: Heidi shared the current budget report

Library Report: Summer Reading had 273 participants and Art in the Park had 45 vendors and made $900 in the book sale. Gina and Heidi are making changes in the library to designate an early childhood room ages 13 and under and a young adult will remain in the same section which is for ages 14 and up.

Old Business

1. Discussion and possible decision on Cami Strasser’s Patrons Opinion of library material “Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List”. No action was taken at this time due to the book is not in Grangeville Centennial Library circulation.

New Business

1. Nancy read a letter of support from Katie Matthews. She said that parents are responsible for books their children check out and we should not be censoring or using a rating system.

2. Discussion and possible decision on Cami Strasser’s Patrons Opinion of library material “A Court of Thorns and Roses” The board discussed if this book should stay in the Young Adult section or be moved to the Adult section. Stacy made a motion to move the book to the Adult section. Motion died for lack of a second. Betty made a motion to keep the book in the Young Adult section. Nancy seconded. Brennan did a roll call asking each board member to say their vote. Brennan said yay, Bridget said yay, Betty said yay, Nancy said yay, Stacy said nay. Motion carried.

3. Discussion and possible decision on Cami Strasser’s Patrons Opinion of library material “A Court of Mist and Fury” The board discussed if this book should stay in the Young Adult section or be moved to the Adult section. Stacy made a motion to move the book to the Adult section. Motion died for lack of a second. Betty made a motion to keep the book in the Young Adult section. Brennan seconded. Brennan did a roll call asking each board member to say their vote. Brennan said yay, Bridget said yay, Betty said yay, Nancy said yay, Stacy said nay. Motion carried.

4.
