Grangeville Centennial Library Board Meeting
City Council Chambers-225 W North St.
June 8, 2023 – 5:00 p.m.
Meeting was called to order by Brennan Wright at 5:00 PM. Those present: Betty Nafziger, Nancy Moser, Stacy Stone, Dylan Canaday Heidi Brown and Gina Sobrero
Visitors: Cami Strasser: Asked the board to review, edit and amend current collection Development Policy. She also suggested a rating system based on the Content Based Rating.
Rachel Young: Opposed the rating system. Librarians should curate well-rounded collections that represent a range of viewpoints, especially on contentious topics. She also stated that it is the parent’s responsibility to monitor what their children are checking out and reading in the library.
Minutes: Brennan moved and Nancy seconded to approve the board minutes from the last meeting held on March 16, 2023. Motion passed.
Budget Report: Gina and Heidi shared the current budget report.
Library Report: Gina reported on summer reading, family read week, Let’s talk about it, Art in the Park, and a review of the accomplishments the library has done during the year.
Old Business
1. Trustee Manual. All board members present agreed to review the Trustee Manual before the next meeting.
New Business
1. Discussion and possible decision on Cami Strasser’s Patrons Opinion of library material. The board decided to have all members research other library policies and bring ideas to the next meeting. Members were encouraged to research information on the book, Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List. Board decided to table until the next meeting. Nancy moved to table discussion until July 20th meeting, Stacy seconded it. Motion passed.
2. Discuss and approve budget 2023-2024. Gina and Heidi presented the budget for 2023-2024. Brennan moved that we accept the budget, Stacy seconded it. Motion passed.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:02 PM.
