LOGGING ON KLEIN AND WATERSHED PROPERITIES: Mayor Lester stated he had met with Matt Enberg with Northwest Management this week and Matt explained Jesse Geis was ready to move to Klein property. Matt had stated the prices have dropped from $580 MBF to $420 MBF. The $580 was projected last fall. There is no way to know if the prices will go back up or not. It is approximately $15,000 less than the estimated income last year. The estimated net revenue is $53,000 which will be placed in an account for the Klein property.
Councilor Peterson felt the City should move forward with the harvest. The money stays with the Klein property and the City is not planning a big project right now. If the City was planning a large project then maybe the City could try to wait for better prices but since the City isn’t, we should proceed.
Councilor Grant felt there was no reason to not move forward. The harvest is for management of the property not because of the money the City would receive. The City needs to move forward while Jesse is available.
Mayor Lester also stated if the City decided to wait and not harvest on the watershed, Jesse would not charge any extra mobilization and prices would remain the same. Most of watershed harvest is sanitation and salvage. The watershed will be discussed at our next Council meeting.
On motion by Councilor Peterson, second by Councilor Lane to authorize Mayor to sign the revised Timber Harvest Contract with JG Logging. ROLL CALL VOTE: YES: Canaday, Winkler, Lane, Grant, Peterson. NO: none. The motion passed.
Note: When working on the minutes after the meeting, Clerk Kennedy asked Matt Enberg for clarification on the timeline of the prices. Matt stated the prices have dropped on Douglas fir from $580 MBF to $420 MBF. The $580 was projected from this summer when the logger was not available (not last fall), but the price was probably not realistic.
The meeting adjourned at 12:10 P.M.
